Joel Dyson, soprano
Nominated by the Voice & Opera department to be
the 2012-13 Warfield Scholarship recipient, Joel Dyson is a
sophomore voice performance major. She is also a student of
Robert McIver.
Joel was born and raised in New Orleans and
attended
Xavier University Preparatory High School. Her early
training was at NOCCA (New Orleans Center for Creative Arts).

Joel's high school experience included performances at NOCCA, the
Walnut Hill Summer Opera Program, Kennedy Center (Millennium Stage),
Washington National Opera Institute, and the Classical Singer Vocal
Competition (regional finalist).
Her application essay reads,
“Singing and performing is
what makes me whole, and because of this, I live and breathe
performing.”
Joel also represented
Eastman at this year’s Kennedy Center Showcase “Eastman Voices,”
along with Matthew Grills and others.
