William Warfield Benefit Concert at Eastman
- R-News
It was a
special evening of music at the Eastman School - January 13, 2008, all
to continue the legacy of an Eastman alumnus. The scholarship concert
benefiting the William Warfield Scholarship Fund was held Sunday
evening. The scholarship fund was provided as financial aid to students
for over 30 years. This year's recipient was Julia Allyson Bullock, a
junior who attends the Eastman School.
, a voice
professor at the Eastman School of Music who has coached Ms.
Cabell and Renée Fleming, believes young sopranos meet directors'
growing interest in dramatic credibility. "We're a society that's
enchanted by youth," he said. And because many prominent Verdi or
Puccini roles are supposed to be young women, "it's such a wonderful
idea that you can actually have a young woman playing these
characters."

Carl is fresh back from spending time in Italy, performing
of course. Carl took his first trip to Italy to sing
Belcore in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. This was his first role
in Italian. Later in the summer Carl went to Tabatinga, Brazil. Sent as
a missionary from his home church in Daytona Beach, FL, there he worked
with other men and women from the church to build a sanctuary on a small
island in the middle of the Amazon River.
